When should my child return to school after an illness?

As a parent or guardian, you know when your child is ill and also when they're feeling better.  But it’s important to take steps to make sure they’re well enough to return to school, but also that they’re not at risk of spreading any infection or illness.

I have been contacted by the NHS South Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and the NHS Vale Royal CCG have been working with Public Health England, local GPs, headteachers and parents to develop guidance for when a child needs to be kept off school due to ill-health.  The simple guide, which appears above, covers common childhood illnesses from head lice, diarrhoea and vomiting to scarlet fever and chicken pox.
