I recently met with Councillor Mike Baynham and one of the topics we spoke about was the derelict Liquid Lounge building just off the A54.
The Liquid Lounge building has sat empty for over 10 years, and a devastating fire gutted the inside of the ex-club back in 2013. Since the club closed it has become an eyesore and sadly nothing has been done with the site to either make it safe or redevelop it.
Councillor Baynham and I have been pushing for Cheshire West and Chester Council to take action to rectify the problem. After my meeting with Cllr Baynham I wrote to the Council to ask them to take advantage of Local Government powers to force the owners to clean up the site.
The Council's Deputy Chief Executive of Place, Charlie Seward, has responded to inform me they have issued an untidy land notice to make the owners clean up the site and maintain the building. If the owners do not comply then the onus will fall on the Council to do the work. Mr Seward has informed me that they could Compulsory Purchase the building but they are not willing to do that.
It's great that such an eyesore will finally get tidied up, and hopefully with the other redevelopment going on across Winsford something more will be done in future years.
